A folio put together to present the incredible work of Patrick Aleotti, an Italian illustrator and toymaker who more or less changed my life. Seeing Patrick’s drawings and toys was a big deal for me, and I owe a lot of what I’ve spent the last year doing to him.
This kind of publication design isn’t very interesting to me, but this project was huge because of what it opened my eyes to in terms of visual language. It’s a simple booklet, with die cut front and back covers opening up to reveal six of Patrick’s characters. There is a large pocket in the center which contains a biography and description of his toymaking process, a timeline of education and galleries, and a wearable mask of his main character, Spike. The six characters on the main spreads are perforated, so they can be torn out and kept.
